It Doesn’t Make Sense to Throw a person Who Can’t Swim Into the Deep End.

Many people want to be many things in life. Some want to play a -role- in serving our country while others want to make a lasting -impact-. But you can’t go swimming until you know how to. By that I mean to go get some experience before going solo.

A perfect example is Leonardo Da Vinci. According to a website dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci, ” In 1466, at the age of fourteen, Leonardo was apprenticed to the artist Andrea di Cione, known as Verrochino, whose workshop was “one of the finest in Florence”.” Of course as he got older he succeeded into becoming better than his teacher. In fact, in his autobiography, he remembered his master saying that he painted “in a manner that was so far superior to my master’s that Verrocchio put down his brush and never painted again.” And yes this is true. As Da Vinci had established becoming a mentor, he decided that it was time he did things on his own.

Another familiar name is Beethoven. This man’s contemporary pieces are known to thousands of  people around the world. But of course, he wasn’t just born and instantly knew how to play the piano! Beethoven had multiple people that helped him. ” Some time after 1779, Beethoven began his studies with his most important teacher in Bonn,Christian Gottlob Naffe, who was appointed the Court’s Organist in that year. Neefe taught Beethoven composition, and by March 1783 had helped him write his first published composition: a set of keyboard variations .Beethoven soon began working with Neefe as assistant organist, at first unpaid (1781), and then as a paid employee (1784) of the court chapel conducted by the Kapellmeister Andrea Luchesi.” As the townspeople and other cities had gotten word about this wonderful music mastermind, the fame came in. One of the most classic and memorable pieces composed by Beethoven is Fur Elise.

Now lets say you want to become… oh I don’t know a tattoo artist. Do you honestly think that a license is magically going to appear in your sleep? No, no it’s not. Most tattoo artist start off as an apprentice in a tattooing school. Then, when they become mentors and graduate, they can work either freely, work for others, or hire workers of their own. Most start out working for others, trying to make their mark. Sooner or later word spreads and then the money comes rolling in. Then what do you know, you got your own shop, your own workers, and your own customers.

Now remember, before you go out and dive into that pool, learn how to swim. The last thing you want to do is drown. That would really suck. Big time. And if you practice enough, you could finally ditch those foam noodles and pink floaties and play in the deeper end of the pool. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll have your own pool to teach people to swim in. Wouldn’t that be nice. Okay, enough about swimming. Main point here, go get some experience before jumping the gun and going solo.
